Limi Valley in Humla District is since 2004 affected by a recurrent flood which threatens the oldest Buddhist monastery in West Nepal. The monastery is an important spiritual center of the area. Natural hazards in Limi are in the focus of research of Jan Kropáček, who provided information for an article in Al Jazeera News by Neelima Vallangi. Limi Valley is an excellent example of growing risks in many mountain regions of the World related to climate change. A study by Jan Kropáček et al. (2015) demonstrated that the floods in Limi are caused by growing temperature. Increased glacier melting caused the appearance of the glacial lake. Moreover, the flood years correspond to positive thermal anomalies.
