Abstract:
The project is aimed at the evaluation of the treatment performance of constructed wetlands as well as monitoring of sources of nutrients for surface and ground waters in the watersheds of drinking water reservoirs Švihov in the Czech Republic and Lake Gjersjoen in Norway. Constructed wetlands are monitored for organics (BOD5, COD), suspended solids, all nitrogen forms, total and soluble phosphorus and 32 PPCPs (Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products) such as ibuprofen, carbamazepine, diclofenac, paracetamol, furosemide etc. In the Czech Republic, constructed wetlands Chmelná, Onšov, Popelištná and Moraveč were selected for the monitoring. The same analyses are performed in the Czech Republic and Norway. Within both watersheds two small agricultural sub-catchments have been selected in order to evaluate nutrient budget and to determine the major sources of pollution within the sub-catchment. The study will also include the evaluation of the land use and agricultural management on water quality parameters. Results from monitoring will serve as a base for modelling approach within a catchment area. Short term events as well as long term water balance will be modelled to distinguish and quantify runoff components and pollution being transported by them. Models will simulate diverse scenarios of land use, agricultural management, wastewater technologies and involvement of various biotechnical measures to increase water retention time in a catchment and to enhance surface and groundwater quality.
