The fine powdered perlite, a by-product of processing of raw perlite was used for zeolite synthesis. Such a perlite by-product has very limited application, but the conversion into zeolites is proposed to reuse this material (i.e. minimize waste accumulation) and to obtain value-added material (i.e. zeolites with porous structures). Phillipsite, zeolite P and zeolite X were the main reaction products of our synthesis. Moreover, the synthesized materials reached maximum total specific surface area of 362 m2/g and cation exchange capacity of 371 meq/100g, which indicates their sorption abilities.
