Abstract:
The use of engineered nano-sized Fe oxides is an emerging and perspective approach for metal(loid) stabilization in polluted soils. In order to evaluate their suitability, their adsorption and surface properties have to be evaluated and models predicting their efficiency need to be developed. The major outcome of the presented project is a robust mechanistic adsorption model that would be usable not only for evaluating the suitability of engineered Fe nano-oxides for environmental remediation, but also for explaining the interactions of separate components in the soil sorption complex, evaluating the influence of organic and inorganic ligands and the competition effects of different metals and As.
