Project No.3
(Leading researcher: Ing. Jan Gregar)
The aim of the project is to verify the SWAT model as a watershed management tool. Model will be tested at Hostivar watershed, especially verification of nutrient movement will be monitored. Hostivar dam suffers from eutrophication, which is caused by excessive nutrient load. There are different sources of nutrients in the watershed. They are non-point sources, such as agriculture and urban areas. Point sources are mainly WWTP. The goal is to reduce nutrients load in to the dam, so the concentration of nutrients is low enough to not cause eutrophication. It can be achieved by using BAT (best available technology) at WWTP, BMP (best management practices) in agriculture and many others. All of these can be evaluated in model SWAT. Good water quality can restore one of the original functions of the dam, which is recreation.
