Abstract:
Several partial activities aimed at species under the Natura 2000 network will be implemented in terms of the project. Breeding distribution of birds in the Special Protection Areas with emphasis on Annex I species will be monitored. The findings will be compared with data from past decades. Another two activities will be targeted on water birds in localities under the Natura 2000 network. In terms of these activities will be monitored species of wintering and migrating water birds, and populations of breeding water birds and their reproductive success. The findings will be compared with long-term trends. In the boreal owl, target species of another activity, will be monitored the abundance of breeding populations in dependence on food availability, will be determined the nest box occupancy rate, and will be described preferences for breeding biotopes in localities under the Natura 2000 network. Another part of the project will monitor the occurrence of chytridiomycosis in Annex II amphibians in the Sites of Community Importance. In dragonflies will be implemented monitoring of population dynamics, and will be analysed the influence of biotic and abiotic factors on both larvae and adult individuals in selected localities under the Natura 2000 network. On the basis of the findings will be identified risk factors for individual dragonfly species. The last activity will be aimed at the construction of the computer models of invasive species spreading, and at the proposition of protective measures in selected localities under the Natura 2000 network.
One of the project’s outcomes will be the database of breeding distribution of birds, providing the evaluation of an environment for individual bird species in the Special Protection Areas. The database will subsequently provide the proposition of specific measures. The contribution for water birds will be the analysis of abundance trends during migration and wintering periods in long-term-monitored localities under the Natura 2000 network, and the proposition of monitoring and measures leading to the improvement of breeding success. Another outcome will be the study on abundance and habitat requirements of boreal owls in selected localities under the Natura 2000 network, and the proposition of management measures for support and stabilization of the Czech population of boreal owl. The database of occurrence of chytridiomycosis in the Sites of Community Importance will be created, and the complete evaluation and prediction of disease occurrence in the Czech Republic will be made. For target species of dragonflies will be proposed an effective management with respect to the occurrence and ecological requirements of all development stages, and the criteria for evaluation of target populations´ long-term perspectives will be determined. A methodical approach to the monitoring of invasive plant species, which may affect species under the Natura 2000 network, will be determined. The prediction model of occurrence will be used for an effective monitoring of invasive species and for locality protection.
