Abstract:
The principal aim is to investigate the possible use of the Copernicus Programme for meeting obligations set by the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC).
The particular aims are:
(1) To investigate the possibilities and problems associated with the use of Sentinel 1 and 2 satellites for mapping NATURA 2000 habitats with emphasis on increasing the frequency of updating the Habitat Mapping Layer (HML), i.e. on
(i) detection of qualitative changes of habitats over time,
(ii) detection of spatiotemporal changes of the borders of habitat segments in the HML, (iii) analysis of accuracy of such detection,
(2) To create a complex methodology for practical implementation of the above
(3) To promote the potential of remote sensing techniques for nature conservation among general and expert public.
