Abstract:
Industrial barrens associated with non-ferrous smelter operations have been a major concern in many countries arond the world. The proposed project will evaluated the suitability of nano zerovalent iron and manganese, in combination with dolomite and biochar, for lowering metal (loid) solubility and promoting plant and microorganism development in soils polluted by nonferrous smelters. During the first year, we will examine the sorbents‘ efficacy by conducting a series of ex situ experiments. We will then select two of the most fitting treatments to startsmallscale field experiments. The project’s deliverables will demonstrate metal(loid) behavior patterns in soil-microorganism systems in real field conditions and thus enable us to establish the most appropriate remediation strategies. The project will benefit from the proposed collaboration between Czech and Russian Instituions.
