Project number: VI3VS / 787
Project title: Optimization of procedures for realization of crop production in the region affected by a nuclear accident
Grant provider: MV ČR
Principal investigator: State Institute of Radiation Protection
Project partners: CULS - Faculty of Environment, ENKI o.p.s., University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice
Realization period: 9/2019 - 12/2022
CULS total budget: 6 294 ths. CZK
Principal investigator for CZU: Doc. RNDr. Emillie Pecharová CSc.
Abstract:
The project deals with the development and validation of software for prediction of the biomass contamination level in relation to soil radionuclide content and soil characteristics in case of a nuclear accident. Transfer coefficients and theoretical knowledge about behavior of the radionuclides in biota will be used. Methodology for optimizing of procedures to maintain crop production in the affected area will be created. Scenarios for utilization of the land will be developed.
As part of the project, the CZU team is cooperating with experts from the Belarusian Radiological Institute, who share their experience and data regarding soil and biomass contamination caused by the Chernobyl NPP accident.
