Abstract:
The main objective of this project is to analyse and clarify historical associations between variability of meteorological parameters and seasonal patterns of mortality. Special attention will be given to the role of acute respiratory infectious diseases (especially influenza and COVID-19) in these patterns. The scope of planned investigations includes both national and international data: methodological studies will be carried out primarily on detailed datasets of daily deaths and incidence of ARI in the population of the Czech Republic (available since 1982 and regularly updated), but, due to our involvement in the global Multi-City MultiCountry (MCC) collaborative research network (led by Prof. Antonio Gasparrini, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Diseases); see Section 3 and Part D1 for more detail), we have access to epidemiological and meteorological databases from more than 600 locations and 40 countries across the globe. Participation in this international collaboration provides methodological knowledge (e.g., exchange of codes and related support) and enables us to extend our analyses to the continental and global scale.
