Abstract:
The project aims to understand the modulation processes of blood fluke parasite, Schistosoma mansoni, through excretion/secretion (E/S) products taht modulate host physiological processes in favor of parasite. E/S products are generally candidate molecules for therapeutic approaches targeting parasitosis or serving as instrumental models to unravel the host-parasite interactions. A more detailed investigation of these molecules and their mechanisms of action will help to understand the underlying mechanisms during parasitic infection. The project is based on a comparative study of 3 different strains of S. mansoni in host tissues and focuses on candidate molecules already detected by us. The benefit of combining two teams brings multidisciplinarity of knowledge and methodologies to the project. This is the first time in research of this parasite that a comprehensive research approach is designed based on transcriptome analyses and then immediately focused on characterizing the detected molecules in conjunction with known different pathological phenotypes of 3 schistosome strains.
