Project focus:
The ambition of the integrated project is to give a sustainable future to the CSA coal quarry site and to contribute to solving social, economic and environmental problems not only of the quarry site itself, but also of the whole region. The Green Mine project comes with a vision of returning the area to a better state than it was before mining, taking into account the needs of the area's inhabitants. The purpose of the project is to naturally and sustainably combine a new post-mining landscape in the area, enabling the development of new economic activities, clean energy production and quality of life for the inhabitants. The return of companies and residents to the site is a long-term, costly process, requiring the involvement of many public and private actors and multi-source funding. The present integrated project addresses the first development phases that are relevant in time and substance to the ST OP funding, namely conceptual and project preparation, preparatory work and implementation of the first investments. Green Mine is not just a project. It is the story of a landscape that is fascinating in its extremes. It is a story about the constant search for a balance between the economic needs of the population and the need to protect natural beauty and cultural heritage. The Green Mine project has the ambition to meet both these needs and to become a kind of bridge between the needs of environmental and climate protection on the one hand and the socio-economic needs of residents, businesses and settlements on the other. The project could become a pilot project, transferable to other locations.
The Green Mine project is an integrated project consisting of several sub-projects:
- A public backbone road
- Blue-Green Infrastructure
- Preparation of the Centrum development zone
- Competences for new industries
- Research and innovation related to the use of post-mining sites
- Energy storage and hydrogen economy
- Centre for education and popularisation
The Faculty of Environmental Sciences CZU Prague will guarantee research tasks within the Environmental Centre, namely Research on the methods and effects of reclamation practices and Research on blue-green infrastructure in the context of the site.
