The 4th project meeting of the DALIA

The 4th project meeting of the DALIA consortium will be held from September 11 to 13, 2024. This time, the hosts are the Czech institutions – CULS and VUV, which have invited their colleagues from other countries to Valtice.

In addition to meetings of individual working groups and presentations on the project's progress, one of the pilot sites representing floodplain forests will be visited on Thursday afternoon. The floodplain forest located south of Lanžhot, extending to the tri-border area, is significantly influenced by the operation of large reservoirs on the streams flowing through it, such as Nové Mlýny and Vír.

Floodplain forests require a regular flooding regime at appropriate times to function properly, which is essential for the survival of many plant and animal species. However, with the onset of climate change, these conditions are starting to shift, as are societal demands for water availability.

Experts from the TGM Water Research Institute are focusing on detailed monitoring of the reservoirs and the pilot site. In collaboration with experts from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague (CULS), the collected data is evaluated and used in predictive mathematical models to assess the various climate change scenarios and their potential impacts on the floodplain forest. These assessments are not limited to this specific site but extend to similar areas throughout the Danube basin.
