Prof Jan Vymazal is an invited speaker at the Duke University, USA, to give lecture on "Greenhouse gas emissions from contructed wetlands". The Duke Student Association of Wetland Scientists and Duke University Wetland and Coasts Center would like to invite enthusiasts to an early celebration of World Wetlands Day through a special seminar featuring Prof Jan Vymazal, a distinguished expert in constructed wetlands. Lecture will be held on Wednesday, January 31st, from noon to 2:00 p.m. GH Art Gallery (Grainger Hall).
Background for the seminar: Wetlands are considered a major sink or source of GHGs depending on the type of wetland subjected to changing hydroperiods, climate change and nutrient content. Constructed wetlands have been implemented worldwide to treat wastewater high in nitrogen and phosphorus as well as other ions. However, little is known about if these wetlands contribute to GHG releases to the atmosphere, store carbon in the plants and soils, or release C downstream.
