Prof. Petr Sklenička (* 1964), first Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Head of the Department of Land Use and Improvement, was elected to serve as the new Rector of CZU after having won 17 votes from the academic senators in the first round of elections. The rivals were prof. Michal Lošťák, first Vice-Rector of CZU and Head of the Department of Humanities at the Faculty of Economics and Management, and prof. Markéta Sedmiková, Vice-Rector for Science and Research, and Deputy Head of the Department of Veterinary Sciences of the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources. Both Vice-Rector Lošťák and Vice-Rector Sedmíková congratulated newly elected Rector Sklenička immediately after the vote.
Prof. Sklenička replaces the current rector, prof. Jiří Balík from the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources. His leadership of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague will take place after the appointment by the President of the Republic on February 1, 2018.
