Results from our three-year project, "Support of endangered butterfly species based on a combination of flexible habitat management and evaluation of detailed biological data" funded by Norway Grants are here.
Between 2021 and 2023, we recorded 21 267 individuals and 242 arthropod species at our managed site, Dívčí hrady, including 23 species listed in the Red List of Invertebrates. One of the most notable findings was the discovery of Polydegmon sinuatus, likely the first record of this steppe species in the Czech Republic. Other valuable finds include regular sightings of the endangered bug Ceraleptus gracilicornis and captures of the critically endangered "bee" Eucera interrupta.
At our managed sites around Prokopské údolí in Prague, we recorded around 2 000 individuals of 57 butterfly species during detailed monitoring, with 16 of these listed in the Red List of Endangered Invertebrates of the Czech Republic (CR: 1, EN: 2, VU: 7, NT: 6). The most significant among them are Hipparchia semele, Pyrgus armoricanus, Pyrgus carthami, Polyommatus thersites, and Spialia sertorius. In the third year of the project, we recorded the highest number of observed species (47) and nearly double the number of individuals of Red List species compared to the first year of the project!
The monitoring results indicate that our management efforts are yielding positive results.
