The Google Earth Engine Summer School 2022 was organised by the geoLAB - Laboratory of Forest Geomatics of the University of Florence under the supervision of Prof. Gherardo Chirici. During the 5-day programme, we attended lectures from expert users and developers of Google Earth Engine (GEE) apps (e.g., Dr A. Sanchez Paus Diaz & Dr G. Marchi from FAO) and practical lessons held by Dr Saverio Francini. Such lessons thoroughly covered the topics of Google Earth Engine coding, image elaboration, and remote sensing techniques. Thanks to the knowledge and skills acquired during the course, we developed ecologically relevant GEE apps as group projects. Specifically, my group developed an app called “Spatial statistics with GEE”.
Overall, I am absolutely satisfied with this summer school experience. Even though I had high expectations before it started, it even exceeded them, both in terms of quality of teaching and organisation. Moreover, this experience allowed me to interact with very competent students and researchers with whom I had fruitful discussions and shared ideas. I firmly believe that the networking from this summer school will greatly benefit my future career, besides the useful acquired skills.
